Milestones

Welcome to "The Gods Are Bored!"

Mistress Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and silver bells,
And silver bells all in a row.....

Wait a minute. That isn't right. I think Mistress Mary grew lots of stuff in her garden. What a boring garden she would have if it only had silver bells! And if that's true for a garden, isn't it true for religion as well? Become a polytheist! Then you'll get your cockle shells, at least. Maybe you'll pass on the pretty maids all in a row. (Maybe you won't.)

We at "The Gods Are Bored" are celebrating several milestones today.

1. My daughter The Heir has now formally enrolled in college. She will be Class of 2012. And since she had the nerve to choose her own school and bypass all of my brilliant recommendations, I am going to send her to Appalachian State University for purposes of this blog. Go Mountaineers!

2. My daughter The Spare just had her 14th birthday yesterday. We had a party for her at home, 15 rowdy 8th graders, all screeching at the top of their lungs. Decibel the Parrot was in hog heaven. He thought he'd finally found a worthy flock.

The Heir will graduate from Snobville High School in June. The Spare will be paroled from Middle School. Decibel the Parrot, now 22 years of age, is not graduating from anything. You can have him if you want him.

And now ... drum roll ...

3. The Gods Are Bored is celebrating its third anniversary!

More on the latter later. I've just been called to Woodstock Trading Company to evaluate two more crawlspace kittens. I sure hope I don't have to bring them home for bottle-feeding!

Happy anniversary to you and congratulations to your younguns.

When I hear "15 rowdy 8th graders, all screeching at the top of their lungs," for some reason I get a mental picture of a Bush cabinet meeting. Then I remember that 8th-graders are a lot smarter and better behaved.

That's a lot of monkey droppings in the ruts of time and space behind us that no one reads.

Blogs are interesting in the respect that they do not read like books. It's as if everything gets sweep under the carpet.

So basically what we are doing is wasting our time instead of doing more useful things.

On the other hand, many of the other useful things are too hard on mother earth.

The most useful thing I can do in the course of the day is make myself laugh. And writing this blog is how I do it. So I would call it the most important thing I do in a day.

If it's monkey droppings, then the highlight of my day is shoving monkey droppings under the rug, and I've been doing it since April 14, 2005.

"My daughter The Heir has now formally enrolled in college. She will be Class of 2012."

*knocks on wood* Forgive my cynicism, but I graduated from high school in 2003 and I might end up class of 2012 too. ;-) No one graduates in four years anymore...

Trust me, I am knocking on wood. Let's just say I can barely afford four years. With another kid right behind.

I find it funny that you have a parrot called "Decibel." My ex had one called "Claude," after Claude Shannon, so great minds think alike, or fools seldom differ. You choose. :)

Why does nobody graduate from university in four years anymore. Seems like everyone I know of has done it, except my sister, who can't seem to figure out what she wants to enroll in in the first place. *shrug* I could have done an honours degree in three years if I'd wanted to, but I'm old and graduated from university in 1997.

I won't even say what year I graduated university. Let's just say that when my Vo Tech students asked me if I was a teenager when Bill Clinton was in office, I fell on the floor laughing. I was a teenager when the Republicans burgled Watergate.
