Update on The Heir

It is with great pleasure that I announce the graduation of The Heir, YourMoney College, Class of 2012.

She needed 56 points to pass the final in Neuroscience. She got 63. If you don't think this is the work of bored gods, toddle off now, take Neuroscience, and see how you do it without their help!

I fear that Neuroscience is the easiest test Heir will face this year. She comes home to find a job in this sour economy. Although she has many useful skills and has worked part time since she was 16, she doesn't know where to begin looking. Her college helped her not at all in this respect.

We live in tough times, folks. Either you're working too hard or not working at all. Stay tuned at Ground Zero of a college graduate's search for a job. Any job.

Way to go, Heir! You're a neuroscience whiz, that's clear. Congrats on graduating -- enjoy the moment. You've earned it!

Huzzah, Horray, Amen, Conga Rats, and all the varied and sundry w00ting cheerfullness I can think of! w00t! That's great news, but not too surprising, knowing how awesome a teacher the mom is. :)

As for jobs, if she's willing to be creative, I found my current employment beyond my chosen field by working some really odd Temp jobs to stay afloat before the Big one hit. I'm sure it'll happen, in due time.

Congratulations to you and the Heir!!

And no, college does not help and never has with the whole "Hey, you're an adult now" transition. I had to go through a lot of temp jobs, while experiencing the stigma of being "too educated." It's not just a dismal economy our society has, it's a dismal mindset.

High fives on the exam success. Job situation--yeah, not great, but she's her mother's daughter, so I'm pretty confident she'll land on her feet.

Cheers!

Congratulations! And I feel your pain. I was there not that long ago. I wound up taking a job that had nothing whatsoever to do with what I had studied for the previous 3.5 years (heavy course loads, couldn't afford to take any more time than necessary.) The really weird thing is that I found out I really, really like what I do now. There's plans for one more change of jobs in the still-cloudy future, but it will probably combine both what I studied and what I've been doing lately. Even if she finds something totally unrelated, it may turn out for the best in the long run. :)

Never inform a future employer of your complete prowess if seeking employment on a lower level through necessity.
When an opportunity arises in your field of expertise, be polite to your previous employer when leaving, it will pay dividends.

Congratulations!
and good luck on the job front. You may have to start your own business to get a job.
