Welcome to "The Gods Are Bored," rushing to you on the first of many 10-hour work days! Cernunnos and I have been extremely busy today. He's not much of a paper-pusher, nor is He inclined to keep the faeries from stealing things. So I'm a bit stressed.
I have taken stock of the books in my English classroom, and they aren't great. Lots of V.C. Andrews and "Sweet Valley High." Ick.
Very little of anything a male student would want to read.
Ergo, another SOS.
If you have any of the following books lying around, just waiting for the bite of the dreaded silverfish, please contact me.
1. Anything a male reader ages 12-20 would like: sci fi, horror, sports, war. War books should be about current or recent conflicts, no older than Vietnam.
2. Twilight or any of its sequels.
3. "His Dark Materials" trilogy, esp. The Golden Compass.
4. The Hobbit
Also, there's not one single "Harry Potter" title in the room. And a shocking lack of nonfiction.
My next white magick project will be to alter the literary landscape of my classroom, with close attention paid to stuff boys would like to read. Even Barnes & Noble isn't very helpful in this respect (not that I can afford their prices).
Toodle-oo for now!

Anne, I have an Amazon gift certificate sitting here on my desk-what book do you most want in your classroom? And do you want me to have it shipped directly to you?
His Dark Materials will cause issues if you have fundamentalist Christians in your class (or district). They and the Catholic League absolutely hate this series. Harry Potter a little less so, because of it's popularity. I wonder... boys and girls alike might like various books in the Discworld series, and those books have another great feature: The better-read your students become, the more fun those books will be. They're easily available in paperback, too.
You know, I weeded my book collection recently, but I'll take another look at it.
How about a couple of books from the "Hatchet" series? They are some of my personal favorites, but I'd be willing to part with them (if you think they are appropriate) to pass on the love of the books. I'll have to take a look at what else I have on my book shelves (might take me a day or two, lol!).
If you have a few weeks I'll see what I can do. But I can guarantee that any Tolkiens/Rowlings/Meyers books that are in this house would warrant my stabbing if they somehow left this house! I'll do what I can otherwise.
ohh,as I'm sure you know..I have a bunch of books..what are their ages..email me..
I have lots of Science Fiction, lots of teen stuff (mostly stuff my girls were interested in, but mostly not very girly) and I have stacks of them all over the house that I've been wanting to get rid of.
Terry Pratchett is staying with me. Sorry.
Just let me know where to send them.
I have some Heinlein sci-fi that I would be willing to part with. My email is angela@nineravens.com. Let me know where to send them.
I have a copy of the Golden Compass triology in one nifty paperback, if you'd like it.
Servitor made a good point so if you do not want it, that's cool too. My girls read a gambit of books including the Twilight series - dunno that they are willing to part with those just yet.
I'll find out what they though a teen male would like to read and let you know what I have.
Alrighty! I found 6 or 7 books - still digging around and then I'll send you the list and see if you think they are all appropriate.
Make sure to email me with your addy! I have those dinosaurs ready to go, too!
Ummm, der, that anonymous post was from my, lol! It's my, uh, well, anonymous personality, lol!
Anyhoo, here is what I have. Please let me know if you think they are all okay, and I'll ship 'em off with the dinosaurs, ASAP.
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
The Final Warning (Maximum Ride series) by James Patterson
The Dangerous Days of Daniel X by James Patterson
Storm Front (Dresdon Files) by Jim Butcher
Nightlife by Rob Thurman
Saving the World (Maximum Ride series) by James Patterson
Deathstalker by Simon R. Green
I know the Maximum Ride ones might not be guy oriented per say, but I do believe they'd be okay for the 12 year old age group.
And I still might come up with something else.
I could give you the Hobbit and some Twilight books (1-3). Contact me if you want them via giraffes78910@hotmail.com or the pentagramdiaries.wordpress.com
I have the first few Olympians & Percy Jackson books in paperback. Where do I send them?
