I am a school teacher. I teach English.
This week my students are writing memoirs about significant happenings in their lives. This is an emotionally fraught exercise.
As a teacher, I believe in teaching by model. So I wrote my own memoir about a time when my dog ... oh, wait! I've never told that story here.
Here's the dog in question, 1969. I'm actually writing this story about writing a story about a dog.
Basically I'm putting the photo here so I can show my students. Maybe some day I'll tell all of you about how this magnificent pet saved me from danger.
Yes, students, that's me on the right.

Love your blog; think I found it through Debra...seems to be a common path! New reader. Now living in Ohio but I grew up outside Philadelphia...love your Philly pics, especially your Mummers outfits. No one in Ohio has ever heard of, much less seen, a Mummers parade; their loss!
I hope you tell us that story some day.
Everyone has a "local" story to tell.
Luv ya Anne (whatever that really means).
( and please discuss what one of your "Presidents" really meant when he instructed students to take the vocal "u" out of 'colour', 'honour', and 'humour'. )
if it's going to make me cry I will skip that story..ha
And yes, Anne, we can jest about what it means if i deliberately write The Untied States of America ---
or something else ... one of the joys, and humour, double entenre of this poly glot - almost worldwide commercial = language.
And yep. No other humans have kept company for as long as my Kelpie/Staffie crossbreed. Sometime there's a nasty one .. but mine seems to be one of the nicer ones in the neighbor hoods.
I'd love to know how the dog saved you. I worship dogs. There's a reason dog is god spelled backwards.
Love,
Janie
Great photo!
Lucky you had a dog! My dad only liked cats so I never got a dog until much later. Now I can't imagine life without one, along with a cat or two. Looking forward to the story :)
