Stop a moment and think back to April 1, 2005. Think about what you were doing, how old you were, and what your hopes and dreams were.
Now imagine that a stranger walked up to you and said, "In November of 2020, President Donald Trump will appoint a third Supreme Court justice a week before the general election in the midst of a pandemic that has taken 225,000 American lives in six months."
Imagine.
I'm surprised more people aren't seceding and starting their own countries.

I really find it hard to comprehend where we are and how we got here. Over eight decades I have seen segregation, integration, race riots, wars, protest, and dissatisfaction with politicians and political parties; but I never thought that the basic foundation of our democratic society was floundering.
You are an educator and I have been an educator: and I believe this all began with the fundamentalist Christians usurping the curriculum of our schools (Texas having over influence on the content of text books) Non educators deciding what should be taught in schools (standards.) The school systems failing children resulted in a population without the basic knowledge of literature, art, government, history - a large percentage of the population functional, but basically ignorant. And then we arm this population with military weaponry. All that was needed was a charismatic con man for the lunatic fringe becomes the lunatic mainstream.
I am too old to give a fuck about the future; but it is a shame the dismantling of the United States of America. We are at a crossroads, and people will get what they deserve.
Thank you for the unappreciated job you and others teachers are willing to do.
