In Which I Resign from the Daughters of the American Revolution

Bad timing. Very bad timing.

This afternoon when I got home from work I found in the mailbox my yearly dues notice from the Daughters of the American Revolution. I have been a member in good standing of the D.A.R. for exactly 28 years, as of June 2.

National, state, and chapter dues total $68.50, plus $2.00 suggested for the State Regent's project.

To put it bluntly, there are more pressing needs for my $70.

Here is the text of my letter to our local Regent:

Dear [Name Omitted],

After exactly 28 years in the D.A.R., I will not be renewing my membership. My decision to leave N.S.D.A.R. and Snobville Chapter has nothing to do with the fine members of our Chapter or with the mission of the D.A.R.

I have lost my patriotism. I am no longer proud to be an American, which, I think, is a cornerstone value of the D.A.R.

Please remove me from the rolls.

Sincerely,
[My so-called Married Name, because they never bought that feminist stuff]

My ancestors hid behind rocks, muskets clutched in shaking hands, to establish this nation. I've always been proud of that. But who can be proud, who can hold her hand over her heart, when her country joins Nicaragua and Syria as the only other nation outside the Paris Climate Agreement?

America has been undermined by racism, espionage, the corporate agenda, and the massive power of the very wealthy. It is not a nation I can stand behind.

I never came to this place during the presidency of Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush. I would welcome either of them into the Oval Office on this or any other day, if it rid us of the scourge of Donald Trump and Republicans who support him to advance their own anti-woman, pro-rich, polluting agenda.

To arms, Warrior Women! The time to drink tea and pledge the flag is over.

George W. Bush looks so good to me now. The current president is an embarrassment. Congratulations on resigning.

Love,
Janie

But you got out right as the country was being made great again!

Are you just tired of winning so much?

Interestingly enough, and I hope that it helps temper the flames of frustration you probably feel.... but you are more Patriotic in this decision than you realize.
'Murica may be falling to the dogs and into the swamp, all around us.
However, You standing up for your Beliefs and Proud Heritage is in actual fact and action, the America I want to live in.
Kudos, and support. for keeping the Dream alive.
It's these small ripples that will slowly wash the tidepools clean.

Most of the D.A.R. members I have known really have been snobbish, backwards, old biddies. I find it difficult to understand that you were one, but I am glad you are not any longer. I can understand the pride of descent, but that group has mutated into something sinister.

I'm so tired of being amazed every day by the utter stupidity of Trump. And I too never felt this way during the Reagan Bush years. What an embarrassment our nation is.

Party or Patriot.......is the call of the day I see......decay of democracy & humanity is what keeps me angry. He is a tool used by a larger force that is sucking the life out of those who still think freely.
Anyway...not to start ranting.....trust that their are World! forces assisting in the downfall and new, stronger rules of play put into place.
It will be epic!
Nicaragua didn't sign because green house immisions levels didn't go high enough. Only 🇺🇸 & Syria

The people of 🇺🇸 will have non of this denying , Power in numbers as always! xoxoxoDebi

I am not a DAR member although I would easily qualify through my great x 5 grandfather who was Sgt.Jonathan Hunter, a Revolutionary war soldier. Some of my ancestors were here since the early 1600's,others emigrated later but they all fought in every major war in our country's history. Now comes Donald Trump who is not only the Liar-in-Chief but the recipient of a dandy little favor courtesy of the family Dr. to keep him out of the military. Now I can't really blame his parents for not wanting their son in harms way (who would) but when Trump injected his lack of respect for John McCain's service I was infuriated. Trump lacks basic common courtesy and integrity. He saw winning the Presidency as a power move to earn more power and prestige for himself and family. Oh he claims he wants a win for the American people too but that is secondary. In his world he also wants a loser to gloat over to boost his fragile esteem. Politics are his playground and he is the insecure bully. I was also angry when he led the "birther movement" since it would be quite absurd for an 18 year old University of Hawaii student to choose to go all the way to Kenya in 1961,under British Colonial rule to have her first baby with his father, also a university student in Hawaii. When I heard "birthers" say that Hawaii wasn't a state in 1961 I wanted to scream at the ignorance! It's o.k. not to know facts but don't argue it in such an asinine manner. Obama,I believe, has Revolutionary war ancestors too and Trump is crass to believe all of the electorate is too stupid to know Obama's American roots. In Trump's mind we are all idiots that he can either try to control or attack, his winning strategy so to speak.

Bravo! I also resigned my membership just last night for the same reason. The straw that broke the camel's back was my chapter promoting an event at Mar A Lago being hosted by a group of women calling themselves "Trumpettes" that one of their members would be performing at. I think the regent realized her error and emailed an apology but the damage was done. Buh bye!
